Victor Osimhen gives expectation insights on Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles debut vs Rwanda

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria star Victor Osimhen has shared insights into the expectations set by new Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle ahead of his official debut later this month, as the Super Eagles prepare for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Currently sitting fifth in Group C with three points from four matches, Nigeria must secure maximum points in these upcoming games to keep their hopes alive for qualification to the 2026 tournament.

Osimhen discussed his recent conversation with Chelle, where the coach outlined his vision and expectations for the team.

In a lively chat with Mikel Obi on the ObiOne Podcast, Osimhen gave a glimpse of what the team can expect under Chelle’s leadership.

He recalled the message Chelle shared with him during a visit to Europe to meet with several Super Eagles players.

“I am trying to give most of my national teammates who will listen to this podcast a snippet of what they could get from the coach,” Osimhen explained.

“He said to me, ‘Victor, you and others I have called, I need you to come, hand-in-hand with me to work to achieve amazing things for Nigeria, and I think you guys have the quality to do it.'”

Osimhen continued to reel out Chelle’s firm stance on commitment, quoting him as saying, “But the one who doesn’t fight for every ball, doesn’t run, will not play.”

The Napoli striker emphasized that Chelle is committed to excellence and has made it clear that only those who show full commitment and fight for every ball will earn a place in the squad.

“He said he could be a brother, uncle, or father to the players, but on the pitch, ‘it is business,'” Osimhen concluded.

Chelle’s no-nonsense approach signals a fresh, determined mindset for the Super Eagles as they head into these pivotal World Cup qualifiers under his leadership.
