By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu scored a late goal for Southampton, but it proved to be a mere consolation as the Saints were defeated 2-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Onuachu, who came on as a substitute at halftime, nearly made an immediate impact with a shot that hit the crossbar in the 60th minute.

He finally found the back of the net in the 75th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

However, the Saints were unable to mount a full comeback, having gone 2-0 down at halftime thanks to a brace from Wolves’ striker Larsen.

Fellow Nigerian Joe Aribo also featured in the match but could not help Southampton avoid the defeat.

The result leaves the Saints with more work to do as they struggle in the Premier League.
