Fatai Bashiru, the coach of Dannaz Ladies, has attributed his team’s 3-1 away loss to Nasarawa Amazons in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership to fatigue, which affected the effectiveness of the players on the pitch.

Despite a goal from Delight Isaac, the Cedars were unable to secure a victory as Nasarawa Amazons clinched the win with goals from Kesiena Ojiyovwi and Bibiana Odoh.

While disappointed with the loss, Bashiru acknowledged the exciting nature of the game between two strong teams but pointed to the congested fixture and long-distance traveling as factors contributing to the players’ tiredness.

“Although we lost, I’m not pleased with that, but that’s football for us. It’s a game of win, draw, or lose. We saw good football from both sides, which was commendable,” stated Bashiru during the post-match interview.

“We are facing challenges due to fatigue. We had to travel extensively for matches, including the recent FA Cup in Lagos, which took its toll on the players’ fitness levels. Despite their efforts on the pitch, fatigue affected their performance.”

Acknowledging the misconception that home teams should always win, Bashiru emphasized the importance of showcasing good football regardless of the venue. He praised the open style of play exhibited by both teams during the match.

“We need to accept the loss and learn from it. Despite the fatigue, the players performed admirably, but there’s room for improvement,” Bashiru added.

Dannaz Ladies will aim to bounce back in their next game as they host Adamawa Queens at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Wednesday, April 3rd.
