Rwanda 0-0 Nigeria: Super Eagles share spoils with Amavubi in Kigali

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team played to a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their second group match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers at the Stade Amahoro in Kigali on Tuesday.

Both teams entered this match with different outcomes from their group openers last week. The Super Eagles had secured a 3-0 victory over Benin, while Rwanda had settled for a 1-1 draw with Libya.

Bruno Onyemaechi had an early opportunity for Nigeria, but his effort was thwarted by the Rwandan defense. Ademola Lookman believed he had broken the deadlock for Nigeria, only for his goal to be disallowed due to a foul by Semi Ajayi in the buildup.

The match featured intense action, with both goalkeepers playing pivotal roles. Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi’s introduction in the second half injected fresh energy into Nigeria’s attack.

Stanley Nwabali made a crucial save against a long-range effort from Rwanda late in the game, while Osimhen’s header inside the box was also well-stopped by the Rwandan keeper.

The match was attended by Rwandan Prime Minister Paul Kagame and his daughter.

Following this result, Augustine Eguavoen’s team sits atop the group with four points from two games, ahead of Libya’s upcoming clash with Benin Republic.
