U17 Afcon: Ruthless Golden Eaglets earn praises from Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro

Nigeria senior national team coach, Jose Peseiro was taken in awe of the U17 national team’s good form following two consecutive wins in two friendly matches on Wednesday.

The Golden Eaglets crushed Ikon Allah Academy 9-0 and also condemned  Propel Sporting Academy to 6-0 defeat at the FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja.

The Super Eagles head coach Peseiro who watched both games could not hide his excitements with the players’ performance as he advised them to keep their heads up and remain disciplined.

“I must say I have been impressed by a number of players in this team. They are headed for great things if they keep level heads and remain disciplined,” Peseiro said.

The U17 boys made their mark in the games as they kept clean sheets in both encounters. Against Ikon Allah, the Eaglets showed their class and composure as they scored four goals in the first 45 minutes before delivering a fatal blow in the second half by scoring five goals to deliver a heartbreaking defeat to the Ikon Allah Academy.

The Golden Eaglets have won the U17 AFCON on two occasions in 2001 and 2007, having appeared at the U17 AFCON tournament eight times.

The four semifinalists in the U17 AFCON will automatically qualify to the FIFA U17 World Cup.  The Eaglets made their FIFA U17 world cup debut in 1985 and have gone on to win it a record five times in 12 appearances.
