Uyo to host Super Eagles 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe

The Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo is scheduled to host the qualifying matches of the country’s senior men national team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau made the announcement on his latest visit to the Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno.
NFF President, Gusau further confirmed the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will be the host of the Super Eagles 2026 World Cup qualifying matches that will take place from September 2023 to January 2024.
The Super Eagles will begin their qualifying campaign at the Nest of Champions against Sao Tome and Principe on September 10 2023.
The other FIFA World Cup qualifying matches will start on November and will be played at the Nest of Champions.
NigeriaFootball understands that most national players had complained severally about the bumpy Moshood Abiola Stadium pitch in Abuja, hence the CAF approval of an alternative ground in Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
