Nigeria defender, William Troost-Ekong has set his sights on making the national team squad list for the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Troost-Ekong was not in action when the Super Eagles were held to two draws by Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles defender believes he deserves a place at the 2024 AFCON as the PAOK defender admits going to the continent’s premier tournament will be a big sacrifice for him .
“We spoke about it[attending the AFCON] when I arrived at PAOK,” Troost-Ekong was quoted by Oma Sports.
“At the time I was captaining Nigeria, I said we worked very hard as a team to qualify for the AFCON, and it’s my dream to go there and win it.
“The last months, I’ve had to rethink everything and going to the AFCON will be a big sacrifice, especially with how things are going at my club.
“So, yeah, I’d like to do it again. But you have to feel the appreciation and get the invite. So we’ll see about it. I’ll keep working hard at my club, give my best performances, and see what happens.”
Fourth placed PAOK with 26 points from 12 games with face Volos in their next game in the Greek Cup round of 16 tie.
