NPFL: Godfrey Oboabona lauds NPFL’s remarkable improvement in quality

2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Godfrey Oboabona, recently returned to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after ten years abroad and has been impressed by the league’s notable improvements in quality.

Joining Sunshine Stars during the last transfer window, Oboabona expressed satisfaction with the positive changes and enhancements witnessed in the league. He particularly praised the strictness and professionalism of referees, noting a significant improvement in their performance.

“The quality has been great now because of a lot of improvements in the league,” Oboabona remarked. “The referees are very strict and conducive people. They try to improve in every area of their aspect and what they see and what they do.”

He also highlighted improvements in individual teams, emphasizing the dedication to practice and correction evident throughout the league. “The quality of the teams individually which has been seen so far. There have been a lot of improvements in the teams individually. A lot of practice, a lot of correction all over.”

Reflecting on his experience, Oboabona expressed amazement at witnessing these positive changes in Nigerian football. “It’s been amazing. It’s been great for me to see these kinds of things in Nigeria,” he concluded.

As the 2023/2024 campaign enters its final stretch with 14 games remaining, Sunshine Stars currently occupy the 13th position with 31 points. Lobi Stars lead the log with 43 points, followed closely by Enyimba FC (42 points), Plateau United (41 points), and Enugu Rangers (41 points).
