NWFL Premiership Matchday 17 Preview: Super Six Race & Relegation Battles Intensify

The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership enters Matchday 17 with high-stakes action across both groups, as teams jostle for Super Six playoff spots and fight to avoid relegation. Two regional derbies headline the round, adding extra intensity to an already decisive weekend.
Group A
Adamawa Queens vs Naija Ratels (Makwada)
This clash is more about pride than progression. Adamawa Queens are still battling to remain in the top flight, while Abuja-based Naija Ratels have already seen their survival hopes dashed. Both sides have struggled for consistency, each managing just one win in their last five games. Adamawa Queens, however, will draw confidence from their 2-0 first-leg victory.
Bayelsa Queens vs Heartland Queens (Yenagoa)
Already through to the Super Six, Bayelsa Queens host Heartland Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium. The “Prosperity Girls” are in strong form with four wins in five matches. Heartland Queens, who won the reverse fixture 3-1, will look to complete a double, but face a confident home side playing without pressure.
Rivers Angels vs Ekiti Queens (Port Harcourt)
Rivers Angels, fresh off a State FA Cup triumph, return to league action aiming to maintain momentum ahead of the Super Six. Ekiti Queens arrive in excellent form, boasting three consecutive wins. The first leg ended 2-1 in favor of Rivers Angels, but this rematch could go either way given Ekiti’s recent surge.
Edo Queens vs Ibom Angels (Benin City)
A South-South derby takes center stage as Edo Queens host Ibom Angels. Edo Queens, already Super Six-bound, are unbeaten in their last five (three wins, two draws). Ibom Angels have also been competitive, but Edo’s 2-1 first-leg win and current form make them favorites.
Group B
Confluence Queens vs Ahudiyannem Queens (Iyahmo)
Confluence Queens are desperate to halt a three-game losing streak. Their opponents, Ahudiyannem Queens, bounced back to winning ways last week and hold a dominant 5-1 aggregate advantage from the first leg. Momentum clearly favors the visitors.
Nasarawa Amazons vs Sunshine Queens (Lafia)
Nasarawa Amazons continue their push for a Super Six spot against Sunshine Queens. Both teams have been inconsistent, but Sunshine hold a narrow edge from their 1-0 first-leg victory. Expect a tightly contested encounter with playoff implications.
Dannaz Ladies vs Abia Angels (Lagos)
Two evenly matched sides meet in Lagos, both with identical recent form (three wins, two losses). Abia Angels won the first leg 2-0, setting up a competitive rematch as Dannaz Ladies aim to respond on home turf.
Osun Babes vs FC Robo Queens (Ile-Ogbo)
This South-West derby features already-qualified FC Robo Queens against an Osun Babes side struggling for form. Robo Queens have been steady, while Osun Babes are trying to recover from a poor run despite briefly halting their losing streak. The visitors’ 3-0 first-leg win makes them favorites.
Delta Queens vs Remo Stars Ladies (Asaba)
Remo Stars Ladies travel to Asaba aiming to secure back-to-back Super Six appearances. However, their recent form has dipped. Delta Queens, though inconsistent, will look to capitalize at home. The visitors’ emphatic 4-0 first-leg win still looms large.
Teams like Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels and Remo Stars Ladies are still fighting for qualification.
Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, FC Robo Queens and Edo Queens, already qualified, aim to maintain momentum.
Adamawa Queens are among those battling to stay afloat.
Edo Queens vs Ibom Angels and Osun Babes vs FC Robo Queens promise local bragging rights.
Matchday 17 could prove decisive in shaping both ends of the table as the NWFL Premiership season nears its climax.
