Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, has defended Victor Osimhen following his controversial outburst directed at former Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George.
Osimhen criticized George on social media over the national team’s performance in the World Cup qualifiers, sparking widespread debate.
Enoh acknowledged the diverse opinions on how the situation should be handled and cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against taking punitive action without first engaging with Osimhen.
He emphasized that there are more pressing issues in Nigerian football that require attention and that the NFF should remain focused on their goals.
“There has been a plethora of opinions on this. Osimhen is a Trojan for Nigeria, but it was a low,” Enoh said on Eagle7 FM Radio.
“I told the NFF not to make a pronouncement on this before they have engaged Osimhen. This is especially important because these are not the best of times for Nigerian football, and we have to manage a lot of things. The NFF has to stay focused and not be distracted.”
