NWFL Premiership MD 14 Preview: Final Playoff spot up for grabs on last regular season Matchday

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
On the last Matchday of the regular season, two teams jostle for the last playoff qualification.
Naija Ratels and FC Robo Queens hope to get favour results to seal qualification for the Super Six Playoffs.
With five out of six playoff spots sealed, other teams play for pride and survival.
On the other wrongs of the log, Confluence Queens and Heartland Queens fight to beat the drop.
Below is the matchday 14 preview:
Group A
Edo Queens vs Confluence Queens
Edo Queen’s indomitable run ended last week, but the holders already qualified for the Playoffs with the chance of retaining their maiden title won last season.
They have won 10 of their 13 games in the league this season with two draws and a loss.
Confluence Queens, on the other hand, have a herculean task of attempting to beat the defending champions in Benin with the chance of escaping relegation.
A win in Benin City comes with another condition which is if Heartland Queens suffered defeat at home against Nasarawa Amazons. This will help the Kogi-based side escape relegation.
Edo Queens have won five of the last eight head-to-head meetings, putting them in an advantageous position ahead of this clash.
Ekiti Queens vs Abia Angels
Ekiti Queens hope to end their run of eight-match winless streak on the last day of the season.
Last week’s 1-0 loss to Confluence Queens ended a run of consecutive draws.
Abia Angels also aim to end the season on a high after last week’s 2-2 draw with Remo Stars Ladies ended their Playoff hopes.
Coach Adanna Nwaneri will be proud of her team’s form of seven wins, two draws, and four losses, bouncing back from a 5-0 thrashing against Edo Queens in the season opener.
They won the reverse fixture 1-0 at home.
Heartland Queens vs Nasarawa Amazons
The host has to secure a win to escape the relegation zone against the Solid Babes, which sealed the Playoff spot last week.
It has been an abysmal season for Obi Ogbala’s side which made their maiden Playoff qualification last season and decided the league winners with draws against Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels.
The host aims to end the season with a win ahead of their next campaign in a bid to reshuffle for the 2025/26 season.
On a six-match unbeaten streak, Nasarawa Amazons hope to continue the fine form against Heartland Queens.
This will serve as preparation for the Playoffs for the Northern side, hoping to win the league title for the first time in a while.
They have won two of the last four meetings with the other two ending in stalemates.
Remo Stars Ladies vs Dannaz Ladies
In the South West derby, Remo Stars welcome Dannaz Ladies to Ikenne.
Both sides are playing their second season in the top flight with the third sealed for another season.
The Sky Blue Ladies aim to complete a double over their Lagos neighbors after a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.
They have won eight of their 13 games, four more than last season’s feat after the same number of matches.
The Cedars ended their 10-match winless streak with a 1-0 success against Heartland Queens last week.
The Lagos based side will need to be at their best to be able to get a result against one of the form team in the league in Ikenne.
Group B
Rivers Angels vs Benue Queens
Both sides play for pride with nothing to fight for. The host already qualified for the Playoffs, while the travelers are certain to return to the second tier after the debut season.
The Jewels of Rivers suffered their second loss of the campaign against group leaders, Bayelsa Queens last week.
The loss was their second in the last three matches.
They have won nine of their 13 games with two draws and two losses.
The same can’t be said of their opponents, Benue Queens which has lost 10 of their matches with two draws and a win.
Rivers Angels won the first-ever meeting between both sides 2-0 in Lafia.
Adamawa Queens vs Ibom Angels
Adamawa Queens and Ibom Angels trade tackles in Numan hoping to end the season on a high note.
With both teams retaining their league status, the game is another one of pride.
Ibom Angels have won two of the last three head-to-head meetings with their opponents.
The two victories came at home in Uyo while the Fintiri Queens also won their home match.
The reverse fixture in Uyo ended 3-1 in favor of the Orange Ladies.
Naija Ratels vs Bayelsa Queens
In one of the two deciding matches of the final Matchday of the season, Naija Ratels welcome the only unbeaten team in the league, Bayelsa Queens.
The host needs to avoid any form of loss to seal their second playoff qualification since 2022 during their maiden top-flight campaign.
The Prosperity Girls, on the other hand, aim to secure their unbeaten record.
They have won three of the last four head-to-head games with the other match ending in a 1-1 draw.
In Yenegoa, they won the reverse fixture 2-1, ending their opponent’s five-match unbeaten streak in the process.
FC Robo Queens vs Delta Queens
The second playoff decider will take place in Lagos between FC Robo Queens and Delta Queens.
The Lagos Landladies need an outright win against the former league winners.
A win will not guarantee their Playoff qualification, as they need a favor from Bayelsa Queens.
Bayelsa Queens have to beat Naija Ratels to give the Playoffs ticket to FC Robo Queens.
Emmanuel Osahon’s side has not won any of the last seven meetings against Delta Queens in the league.
Three of those encounter have went the way of the Pearls with the other four ending in draws.
