WAFU Zone B U-17: Ghana beat Nigeria to reach Final, qualify for AFCON

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ghana’s U-17 national team sealed their place in the final of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship with a 2-0 victory over in the semi-final on Tuesday.

The win not only sends Black Starlets into the competition’s final but also secures their ticket to the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Michael Awuli gave the Starlets the lead before Robinho Yao Gavi doubled the advantage to put the result beyond doubt.

Despite a spirited effort, Nigeria could not find a way back into the game, missing out on both the final and early qualification for the AFCON.

The Golden Eaglets will now have to wait for their classification match to determine their final standing in the tournament.
