Flamingos Thrash Generation Next 6–0 in Rain-Shortened Abuja Friendly

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance in Abuja, cruising to a 6–0 victory over Generation Next in a preparatory friendly under head coach Akeem Busari.

The match, played over a shortened 60-minute format, showcased the Flamingos’ attacking sharpness and cohesion as they continue fine-tuning ahead of crucial qualification fixtures for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

From the opening whistle, Nigeria stamped their authority on the game. Shavih Istifanus needed just a minute to break the deadlock, setting the tone for what would become a relentless attacking display.

Tobiloba Sarafa doubled the lead in the 10th minute and grabbed her second in the 23rd, putting the Flamingos firmly in control before the midway point of the first half. The pressure continued as Harmony Chidi added a fourth in the 28th minute.

Just before halftime, Aminat Adebisi made it five, ensuring Nigeria went into the break with a comfortable 5–0 lead in the shortened format.

The second half resumed with no let-up in intensity, as Precious Paul found the net in the 46th minute to complete the scoring.

However, the encounter was cut short in the 54th minute due to heavy rainfall, bringing an early end to what had already been a one-sided contest.

Despite the weather disruption, the Flamingos will take plenty of positives from the outing as they build momentum. Their preparations continue with another friendly fixture against Nazareth Queens, as focus sharpens on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Guinea.

With performances like this, Nigeria’s young talents are signaling strong intent ahead of the challenges to come.
