It will be a crime if Lionel Messi doesn’t win World Cup – John Obi Mikel

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has picked Argentina as his favorite team to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
With the Super Eagles missing out of the ongoing tournament, having lost to Ghana in the play-off round, the Nigeria legend has no mixed feelings in rooting for Argentina and Lionel Messi.
The 2005 U20 World Cup Silver Shoe winner has never hide his admiration for Messi whom he shared the stage with at the cadet tournament.
“I have been a Messi fan all my life,” Mikel told Pulse Sports Nigeria
“It will be a crime if Lionel Messi ends his career without winning the World Cup. Morocco have really done well but it will be far-fetched for them to go all the way and win it.”
Obi Mikel is a two-time Premier League winner, having clinched the title in both 2010 and 2015. It’s a Nigerian record, tying Arsenal great Nwankwo Kanu, who was a league champion with the Gunners in 2002 and 2004.
Mikel was an Africa Cup of Nations champion under Stephen Keshi in 2013, as Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso in the final and the midfielder was a key pillar in the country’s third Afcon-winning team.
