Nasarawa United coach Bala Nkiyu bothered by new NPFL season kickoff delay

The Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, Bala Nkiyu is concerned by the uncertainty surrounding the kick-off date of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
The season which was initially slated to kick off on December 28 has been shifted to January 8, 2023 and the Solid Miners Technical Adviser has said that they are prepared for the possible restart date.
“Nasarawa United is equally preparing for the next NPFL season. If we are counting on this for the league to start and anybody says they are not ready, the league won’t be ready in the next three months.” Nkiyu told Brila FM.
Nkiyu stated that most teams have been playing several pre-season friendlies and tournaments and further asserted that the kick-off date for this season is almost the same as that of last season.
“Last year, we started the league on December 27. Now from December 28 to January 8. I don’t think anybody has to right to say they are ready or not. Everybody has been preparing. Nasarawa United has also prepared,” he continued.
The Interim Management Committee IMC, set up to rebrand the league, has been having series of meetings with key stakeholders on how to make the league better after years of stagnation caused by poor management and inadequate funding.
At the end of yet another meeting, the IMC finally concluded that the draw for the 2022/2023 NPFL Season will hold on December 28 while the league matches will kick off on January 8, 2023.
The IMC also agreed to give all 20 teams participating in the 2022/2023 NPFL Season the at least sum of 10m Naira (ten million naira only) as takeoff grant ahead of the new football season.
