Nigeria striker Simy Nwankwo is desperate to prove his worth at his Serie B team Benevento despite dropping down in the pecking order, according to his agent Domenico Beraldi.
Benevento who are managed by 2006 FIFA World Cup champions and Ballon d’Or winner Fabio Cannavaro are 14th on the log with 17 points behind league leaders.
Nwankwo has failed to score in the nine appearances so far this season, fueling speculation of his future at the club but his agent has refuted claims about his potential exit, stressing that the Nigerian striker is keen to stay on.
“Nwankwo’s exit is not even an option, he is focused on his season in Benevento, where he is confident of obtaining good results with his teammates and the coach, with whom he gets on very well,” Beraldi told Pianeta.
“He wants to stay to prove his worth, hoping he has put behind him some minor muscle injuries which
have held him back a bit so far. At the end of the season, as always, we will evaluate the best for him.”
The 30-year-old who scored 20 goals in 38 games for Crotone in the Serie A two seasons ago, will hope to rediscover his form in 2023.
His goal drought has stretched as far as February 2022 with no goal in 18 competitive games and the Nigerian has struggled for form and game time.
