Nigeria women’s national team star striker, Asisat Oshoala has called CIES Football Observatory a ‘joke’ after ranking Scudetto winner, Victor Osimhen, lower than expectations.
Osimhen had an incredible season with Napoli who won its first Serie A title in 33 years.
The Nigerian scored 26 goals to become the first African player to win the best striker award in Serie A’s 125-year history.
Despite this achievement and contribution the 24-year-old was ranked as the 40th most valuable player in the world with a value of €77.3 million.
Manchester City and Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland heads the list with a value of almost €250 million.
Also, two other footballers under 23 years of age, Vinícius Júnior and Bukayo Saka, who just extended his Arsenal’s contract, complete the podium.
According to the famous statistics outfit, CIES Football Observatory, the valuation of the players was based on their transfer values.
Therefore, CIES used a statistical model developed by them to rank the top 100 football players in the world based on their estimated transfer value.
However, Oshoala who recently lifted her second UEFA Women’s Champions League title with Barcelona has called the whole process a joke.
“JOKE,” she posted in the comment section of a post.
