Rivers United releases Bolaji Sakin, Chiamaka Madu, nine others

Rivers United have embarked on a major clear out of some players ahead of new Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL season.

The Pride of Rivers finished third at the of regular and abridged NPFL season behind Enyimba and Remo Stars, after 2021/22 champions also failed to get past Federation Cup quarterfinals.

Assessing the team’s technical efficiencies, Coach Stanley Eguma have announced list of 11 players that did not measure up to expectations as the team begin preparation for the new season.

Notable among the released players are Chiamaka Madu, Bolaji Sakin, Ihunda Chigozie, Fabian Nworie and Darlington Ovunda,

Others are Malachi Ohawunme, Francis Ifeanyi, Akpesiri Naibe, Kenechukwu Agu, Mohammed Farouk and Chukwudi Lawrence.

Rivers United on Monday also crashed out of the Naija Super 8 tournament following their second defeat to Akwa United, having earlier had lost 2-1 to Lobi Stars in their opening game.
