Gift Orban threatens Gent exit despite ending goal drought

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigerian forward Gift Orban has silenced his critics after he netted a sensational winning goal for his club KAA Gent in the Juliper Pro League.
The 22-year-old scored for the second consecutive game after coming off the bench in Gent’s 3-0 victory against Sporting Charleroi on Sunday night.
The Super Eagles invitee has come under heavy criticism of late after a run of 10 matches without a goal. Although, Orban has started just six out of 13 league games for the Buffalos this season.
However, he made a significant impact during the game, scoring an explosive goal just ten minutes after entering as a substitute in the 80th minute.
The 2023 CAF Men’s Young Player of the Year nominee expressed his current struggles and specifically highlighted his diminished role as a key player for the East Flanders club.
Although he emphasized that he has not yet engaged in direct discussions with Gent’s coach, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, about his concerns, he has made it clear that if his playing situation does not improve, he is prepared to seek new opportunities.
“I am not a player who gains confidence when he comes on,” Orban told Het Nieuwsblad.
“I am a player who starts and must be able to grow in a match. A club cannot destroy my career.
“I keep working. If it doesn’t work here, go somewhere else.”
