Alex Iwobi leapfrogs Nwankwo Kanu in Premier League record appearances

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has become the second Nigerian with the most English Premier League appearances, surpassing former Arsenal and Portsmouth forward Nwankwo Kanu.

Iwobi reached a milestone of 274 Premier League appearances following his involvement in Fulham’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham on Tuesday.

Prior to the game, Iwobi was tied with Kanu for second place, but his latest appearance has propelled him ahead of the Nigerian legend.

The 28-year-old now only has former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi to beat, who leads the chart with 293 appearances.

Iwobi made his Premier League debut with Arsenal in October 2015, going on to make 100 league appearances with the Gunners. He then joined Everton in 2019, where he played 123 times for the Toffees, before moving to Fulham two seasons ago.

With his career still ongoing, Iwobi looks set to continue climbing the Premier League appearance rankings.
