Azeez Muhammed talks up Kwara United’s chances in new NPFL season
By Wale Mustapha
Azeez Muhammed, technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League side, Kwara United has opened up his planned strategy on how his team will battle it out in there difficult Group A in the new season.
Kwara United are paired in Group A which soccer pundits described as toughest of the two groups for the Nigerian league abridged season.
The Harmony Boys will compete for the three playoff spots with the like of Plateau United, Remo Stars, Nasarawa United, Gombe United, El Kanemi Warriors, Enyimba International, Akwa United, Bendel Insurance and Shooting Stars.
And coach Azeez who admitted that his side are paired in a difficult group confirmed their readiness to take on any team that comes their way.
“The group is very though but we have nothing to do than to buckle up and be ready, if you want to be a champion you have to face and beat anybody that comes your way and I think with the mentality from the boys they are ready to fight to get the needed results,” Muhammed enthused.
Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin is undergoing renovations and upgrade and will not be ready anytime soon, at least for the start of the season and they have chosen Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan as adopted home ground.
Despite firing up for the new season, Muhammed said playing away from home and without fans could be United’s only set back heading to the season.
“We are prepared, we’ve played some friendly matches the only thing we are working on now is how to get the player to play together and we are doing that we are ready for the season,” he continued.
“The only disadvantage we have now is that we are not going to play our home matches in Kwara which also affect some other clubs also.
“Every club would love to play in front of their fans, even Barcelona will always want to play at the Camp Nou. The support from the fans is always a plus to every team but we just have to adjust and face the reality,” he concluded.
Kwara United are expected to get their new campaign underway with the home game against Gombe United on Sunday at the adopted Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo state.
