Athletic Bilbao forward, Inaki Williams, shared his deep affection for his African heritage after being crowned the best player from the continent in La Liga this season.

Nigerian star Umar Sadiq was also nominated for the prestigious African LaLiga EA Sports MVP award alongside many other top African players from the Spanish topflight.

However, he did not make it to the top 3 as Williams scooped the award after receiving majority votes to beat Moroccan duo Brahim Diaz and Youssef En-Nesyri of Real Madrid and Sevilla respectively.

Despite being born in Spain, the eldest of the Williams brothers opted to represent the country of his parents in 2022, going on to feature for the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar.

Upon receiving the trophy, the Ghanaian international expressed his gratitude dedicating his triumph to the people of Ghana.

“Thank you very much for the acknowledgement. It is an honor to represent all African players in LaLiga.

“My roots in Ghana are as deep as my love for Bilbao and Athletic Club. I hope to be in contention for this same award next season.”

The LALIGA EA SPORTS African MVP Award celebrates the immense talent and impact of African players within the Spanish top-flight league.
