Mansur Abdullahi shares U20 World Cup title winning strategy with Nigeria
By Monsurah Olatunji
Former Nigeria U20 women’s assistant coach, Mansur Abdullahi believes the Flying Eagles can secure the title of the youth global showpiece in Indonesia following a bronzing winning campaign in Egypt.
After finishing third at the just concluded U20 Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigeria U20 men’s team will shift focus on winning the FIFA U20 World Cup for the first time for Nigeria.
According to the former Falconet’s gaffer, the seven-time African champions have to resume camping on time and also urged the team’s head coach Ladan Bosso to get back to the drawing board to fix his attack positions.
He also urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sponsor the team on foreign tours for international friendly games for exposure, confidence, and team cohesion.
“Ladan Bosso can lead the Flying Eagles to win the World Cup for the first time in Nigeria’s history but he must have certain things in place,” Abdullahi told BSN sports.
“Bosso must replace some players he thinks are not good enough with better ones, resume camp early, and have a training tour in Europe to build the players’ confidence and cohesion.
“The players at the just concluded U20 AFCON did well to come Third and win some individual awards. However, he needs to work on grey areas the team is lacking particularly the attack, our striker struggled at the AFCON and that’s a big problem because, without scoring goals, a team can not win the tournament.”
All four semi-finalists in Egypt will qualify to represent Africa at the 23rd FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia later this year.
