Cyriel Dessers expresses disappointment over Manchester United defeat

By Monsurah Olatunji

Cyriel Dessers has expressed his disappointment after a last-minute strike from Bruno Fernandes denied Rangers a crucial point in their Europa League clash against Manchester United.

The Nigerian striker, who thought he had salvaged a draw for his side, was left heartbroken as Fernandes’ late winner sealed the victory for the Red Devils.

Dessers had leveled the score in the 88th minute with a stunning volley, receiving a hopeful long ball from James Tavernier before expertly controlling it and firing a powerful shot past United’s goalkeeper.

With Manchester United on the verge of dropping two points, it was Fernandes who emerged as the hero once again, finding the back of the net in added time to secure the win for his side.

Despite the agony of the late defeat, Dessers took pride in his individual performance and the collective effort of his teammates. Reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster of the match, he shared his thoughts:

“It is difficult to take at the end, especially after the rollercoaster of emotions in the final moments,” he said. “At first, you feel like you’re going to walk away with a point from Old Trafford, and then to let it slip, it really hurts.”

“I think we can be very proud of our performance. We came here with a team that had a few injuries before the game and then picked up some more during the match.

“The young players who came in did an unbelievable job. Their work ethic, courage, and attacking play were impressive, especially considering it’s only their second or third game at this level.”

“We thought we had earned a reward against a very strong team, but unfortunately, the result at the end leaves us disappointed.”
