Southampton thwarts Trabzonspor’s repeated attempts to sign Onuachu

By Dayo Awoniyi
Trabzonspor President, Ertugrul Dogan, has revealed that Southampton has consistently blocked the Turkish club’s efforts to sign Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu impressed during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 games. Despite this, Southampton has shown no willingness to part with the Super Eagles striker.
According to Dogan, Trabzonspor had agreed to terms with Onuachu on a permanent transfer, but Southampton’s inflated transfer demands have stalled the deal.
“We had agreed with Onuachu. We’re still seeing each other. Southampton asked for seven million, and we gave them that, they asked for ten, we went up to nine with bonuses, then they increased the asking fee to fifteen million,” Dogan explained.
Although the Turkish transfer window remains open until February 11, it seems unlikely that the deal will come to fruition this month.
With Southampton fighting against relegation in the Premier League, they are reluctant to let Onuachu leave, especially with the forward under contract until June 2026.
As the situation stands, Onuachu is expected to stay at Southampton for the time being, with the club prioritizing their fight for survival in the Premier League.
