NNL Super Eight: Ikorodu City star Salau Yusuf hopeful of NPFL ticket
By Saheed Afolabi
Ikorodu City star, Salau Yusuf, has set an ambitious target for the club to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Lagos-based team currently has two points from two matches, and a win in their final game against Madiba could see them advance from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the NPFL.
Yusuf, who was elated after being named Man of the Match (MOTM) in their recent game against Beyond Limits, believes that this individual accolade will spur him and his teammates to achieve their promotion dreams.
However, he expressed disappointment over the team’s missed opportunity to win the game due to a squandered penalty.
“I feel so great today winning the MOTM trophy. I know the team very well. My only one goal of the year’s NNL was against this same team. Today’s draw and the award will motivate us the more to focus on our qualifications for the Premier League,” Yusuf told the media.
“Yes, we lost the opportunity to win the game when we missed that penalty, but we are also happy we did not lose the match after they scored us in the early minutes of the first half.
“I am still hopeful that we will do well in our remaining games to pick one of the qualifying tickets for the Premier League.”
Yusuf’s optimism reflects the team’s determination to achieve their goal despite the setbacks they’ve faced, and he remains confident in their ability to secure a place in the top tier of Nigerian football.
