NPFL MD 22 Wrap: Enyimba thrash Gombe United to go top of the table

Enyimba moved to the top of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after they recorded a 4-0 win against Gombe United in the topflight encounter on Thursday.

A brace from Mbaoma Chijioke and a goal each from Uche Collins and Imoh Obot sealed a big win for the People’s Elephant.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars had to rely on a late goal by Taiye Muritala to see off Bendel Insurance.

Abia Warriors also edged Kwara United 1-0 thanks to Sunday Megwo’s 53rd-minute strike.

After the Matchday 22, Enyimba claim the summit with 39 points, the same point as second-placed Lobi Stars.

Plateau United (38 points), Enugu Rangers (37 points), Remo Stars which has played 21 games have 36 points alongside Kano Pillars follow in that order.

Katsina United (34 points), Doma United (32 points), Bendel Insurance (31 points), and Abia Warriors (30 points) complete the top ten teams.

At the other end of the table, Heartland FC with 18 points is at the basement of the table behind Akwa United (21 points), Gombe United (24 points), and Niger Tornadoes (24 points).

The likes of Kwara United (25 points), Sunshine Stars (26 points), Bayelsa United, Sporting Lagos, and Rivers United which have two outstanding games are not far from the drop zone.
