Robert Lewandowski Eager for Another Clash with Super Eagles Ahead of Poland Friendly

Robert Lewandowski has expressed his desire to face the Nigeria national football team once again ahead of Poland’s upcoming international friendly against the three-time African champions.
According to reports in the Polish media, including Gol24, Jan Urban is expected to announce his Poland national football team squad for the forthcoming friendlies against the Ukraine national football team and Nigeria on Tuesday, May 26, two days before the start of the team’s training camp.
The FC Barcelona striker has reportedly ruled out retirement from international football despite Poland’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has assured the coaching staff of his availability for the upcoming camp.
Lewandowski captained Poland during their 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in a pre-World Cup friendly at Tarczyński Arena Wrocław in March 2018, when former Chelsea F.C. winger Victor Moses scored the winning goal from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark.
“As for the June training camp, I’ll definitely be there,” Lewandowski said during an interview with Eleven Sports.
“Due to the situation with Jacek Magiera, this training camp may be a bit different, paying tribute to the coach. It was important to me that I wanted to be there, participate in these matches, and say goodbye to him.”
The 37-year-old remains one of Poland’s most decorated players, having represented his country at six major tournaments, including four UEFA European Championships in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024, where he scored six goals.
He has also featured at two FIFA World Cups, in 2018 and 2022, scoring twice on football’s biggest stage.
Current Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Francis Uzoho, and Moses Simon were all part of the Nigerian side that defeated Poland eight years ago.
