2024 FIFA U-17 WWCQ: Flamingos close to World Cup berth after 4-1 win over Liberia

Nigeria’s U-17 girls thrashed their counterparts from Liberia 4-1 in the first leg of the final qualifying round of 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Sunday.
The 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup bronze medalist started the game with Christianah Uzoma, Prisca Nwachukwu, Taiwo Adegoke, Mary Aderemi, Ayomide Ibrahim, Jumai Adebayo, Kudirat Arogundade, Peace Effiong, Harmony Chidi, Taiwo Afolabi, and Abidemi Moshood.
Makula Konneh, Dalphine Glad, Alicia Zedee, Louise Brown, Olive Nyumah, Makasian Saryon, Esther Massalay, Wonder Juery, Lisa Sarwee, Bendu Yantay, and Angel Browne were the starters for Liberia.
Moshood opened the scoring for the visitors in the 19th minute of play before Effiong doubled the lead ten minutes later.
Nigeria’s top goal scorer, Harmony made it 3-0 in the 36th minute as she converted her 10th goal of the campaign.
Substitute, Blessing Ifitezue increased the lead to four for Bankole Olowookere’s side in the 74th minute.
Liberia pulled a goal back thanks to Yassah Gwaikolo from the penalty spot in the 87th minute but have a lot on their hands ahead of the return leg.
The return leg is billed for five days times at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
