Alex Iwobi scores as Fulham rally past Farense in final preseason test
Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi was on target as Fulham came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Portuguese side Farense in their final preseason fixture of the club’s training camp in Portugal.
The Nigerian international delivered another composed performance in midfield and played a pivotal role as Marco Silva’s side wrapped up their preparations in Portugal with a confidence-boosting win ahead of the new campaign.
Fulham fell behind in the first half after Farense took the lead, but the Premier League side responded positively after the restart in search of an equaliser.
Iwobi brought Fulham level in the second half after Emile Smith Rowe was fouled inside the penalty area. The former Arsenal midfielder stepped up and calmly converted the resulting spot-kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore parity.
The equaliser shifted the momentum firmly in Fulham’s favour as Silva’s men pressed relentlessly for a winner in the closing stages.
Their persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz converted another penalty after Josh King was brought down in the box, sealing a hard-fought victory for the Cottagers.
Iwobi will be encouraged by his impressive preseason form as he looks to carry that momentum into the 2026/27 campaign.
The 30-year-old enjoyed another productive Premier League season last term, registering four goals and three assists in 29 appearances. Although Fulham narrowly missed out on European qualification, the Nigerian midfielder remained one of the club’s most consistent performers throughout the campaign.
With the new season fast approaching, Iwobi will be aiming to build on his strong preseason displays and continue playing a central role as Fulham seek another successful Premier League campaign.
