Nigerian teams miss out of 0,000 CAF largess after continental fiasco

Clubs that qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup are guaranteed a minimum of $700,000 and $400,000 respectively in financial support.

However, Nigeria’s representatives will miss out on the financial benefits after all four clubs failed to advance to the group stage of their respective competitions.

Rivers United and Shooting Stars Sports Club were eliminated in the first preliminary round, while Rangers International FC and El-Kanemi Warriors bowed out in the second preliminary round.

The financial package represents increased support for African clubs under the leadership of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

The initiative is expected to provide a significant financial boost to participating clubs, helping them meet operational costs, strengthen their squads and invest in their football development.

The increased financial support is also seen as a step towards improving the financial sustainability of African clubs and making continental competitions more competitive.
