AFCONQ: “Don’t worry” – Wilfred Ndidi assures Nigerians win against Benin Republic

By Monsurah Olatunji

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has called for revenge against Benin Republic as Nigeria gears up for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will kick off their campaign against Benin on September 7, 2024, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Ndidi, who is eager to make amends for Nigeria’s previous 2-1 loss to Benin in Abidjan—an outcome that impacted their World Cup qualifying hopes—expressed his determination to turn the tables.

Following Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham, Ndidi spoke about the upcoming fixtures and the integration of young players into the squad.

“We know we haven’t performed as expected in the World Cup qualifiers, but we’re ready to make things right in Uyo,” Ndidi said in an interview with ext-NFF pitch announcer Ayo Ibidapo.

“Benin had their win in Abidjan, but we’ll see what happens in Uyo. We’re well-prepared.”

Ndidi also welcomed the new players, emphasizing the importance of representing the national team.

“The young players are always welcome. It’s a privilege to play for the national team, and I hope they adapt quickly and give their best.”

Nigeria will follow up their clash with Benin by traveling to Kigali to face Rwanda three days later.

The Super Eagles have had a challenging run since their final match against hosts Côte d’Ivoire at the AFCON 2023, winning only once in four outings.
