Former Napoli star praises Victor Osimhen over win against Fenerbache

Former Napoli player Dries Mertens has lauded Victor Osimhen for his impressive performance in Galatasaray’s 3-1 derby victory over Fenerbahce.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, played a crucial role by providing an assist for the second goal.

Mertens expressed his excitement about Osimhen’s arrival, stating, “Frankly, I am very happy that he came here. He is an incredible player, and I know he can do even better; we will see that in the future.”

He noted that while Osimhen didn’t have a full preparation period, his talent makes him an essential asset for the team.

Galatasaray’s win over Fenerbahce not only marked a significant achievement but also saw the club equalling its best start to a Turkish Super Lig season since 2009/2010, with six consecutive victories.

The two players were teammates at Napoli for two years before Mertens made the switch to Galatasaray in August 2022.
