AF Awards 2024: Atiku, Obi, other politicians congratulate Ademola Lookman

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman was voted 2024 African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards Gala in Marrakesh, Morocco on Monday night.
The 27-year-old received the honour less than 33 months after earning his first international cap for Nigeria.
While fans and footballers alike have been sending in their congratulations, there have been several high-profile Nigerian politicians who have also congratulated Lookman on his achievement.
Presidential candidate and former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar has sent a congratulatory message to Lookman
“Look no further than Ademola Lookman, African Footballer of the Year 2024. Congratulations! #CAFAwards2024. -AA,” he wrote on X.
Also joining the celebration is another Presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, who extended his congratulations to other Nigerian winners at the event.

“Nigeria was again the starlight in Continental soccer as our own Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, was crowned the African Footballer of the Year 2024, while Super Falcon’s goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, is again crowned the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year 2024 at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
“And to crown it all, the female national team, the Super Falcons, won the continent’s Women’s National Team of the Year at the same awards.
“I sincerely congratulate our very dear sportsmen and women who, through these awards, have written their names in gold and brought honour to our nation. Thank you for your hard work, efforts, skills, and excellence which brought you thus far.
“Sports has not only been a strong unifying factor for us in Nigeria but has proven to be a means of job creation for our talented youths. Moments of victory like this remind us of what we can accomplish as a nation in the area of sports if we invest more in the sector.
“For a youthful population like ours, sports remains a very important sector and we must give it the adequate attention it deserves. A New Nigeria remains possible! -PO.”
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroot Sports Development, Chief Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye also joined in with a statement delivered on behalf of Mr. President.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the sport-loving people of Nigeria, I want to use this medium to congratulate Ademola Lookman, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Super Falcons for being named Men’s Player of the Year, Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Women’s National Team of the Year respectively last night at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
“This prestigious award is a true testament of exceptional talent, dedication and hard work of our national teams and players”.
