Judith Chime increases cash prize for NWFL Premiership goalkeeper of the week

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Nigeria’s senior women’s national team goalkeeper Judith Chime has increased the cash prizes for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Goalkeeper of the Week award.

The former Super Falcons goalie introduced the recognition last season to celebrate top-performing goalkeepers in the NWFL.

Last season, the award came with a ₦10,000 prize each week throughout the season.

However, the Enugu-born ex-goalkeeper has now raised the weekly cash prize to ₦15,000 for the 2024/2025 NWFL season.

Speaking on the development, the Coordinator of the award, Ifeanyi Alaribe according to www.exclusivenews.com revealed that Chime has also pledged a ₦200,000 cash prize, along with a jersey and gloves, for the Best Goalkeeper of the Season.

Additionally, the Goalkeeper Coach of the Season will receive a ₦75,000 cash prize at the end of the season.

“So this season, she has increased everything and has promised to continue supporting the NWFL goalkeepers every season,” said Alaribe, who also serves as the Technical Director of High Save Goalkeeping Academy.

Chime’s generosity highlights her continued commitment to developing and encouraging goalkeeping talents in Nigerian women’s football.

Chime has been organizing the Judith Chime Championship since 2022 on a consistent basis despite rechristening it from the hitherto Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup (ICMC).

The tournament aimed to discover and nurture talents for the women’s national teams.
