FC Midtjylland acquire Friday Etim

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

FC Midtjylland has officially signed Friday Etim, a promising 23-year-old Nigerian striker, on a four-year contract running through summer 2029. Etim joins from CD Mafra in Portugal, where he stood out last season with 8 goals and 5 assists, despite the club’s overall struggles.

A Physical, Hard-Working Forward

FC Midtjylland’s sports director, Kristian Bach Bak, praised Etim’s attributes, highlighting his:

  • High pressing intensity
  • Strong work ethic
  • Physical presence
  • Long-term potential in the Danish Superliga

Bak emphasized that Etim “can make a difference in both fields” and fits well with the club’s playing style.

A Step Up and Big Ambitions

Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Etim had previously impressed as U23 top scorer at Vizela before moving to Mafra in 2023. He now views his move to Midtjylland as a major career leap:

“I’m really happy to be here… I want to help the team win the championship and do well in Europe,” said Etim.

He also expressed a desire to surpass his previous season’s performance, continuing to grow as a striker known for deep runs, work rate, and goal-scoring instinct.

Outlook

This transfer signals Midtjylland’s intent to invest in young, high-upside talent capable of making both an immediate and long-term impact in Denmark and beyond. Etim could become a key figure in their push for domestic success and European competition.
