CAF Champions League: Remo Stars seal aggregate win, set up Sundowns clash

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Remo Stars confirmed their passage into the next round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League with a 1-0 victory over US Zilimadjou of Comoros in Abeokuta on Friday.
The Nigerian champions had already built a commanding lead after a 4-0 win in the first leg at the same venue last Sunday, but the return fixture proved far more challenging.
Despite dominating possession, Daniel Ogunmodede’s men had to wait until the 73rd minute to find a breakthrough.
A cross from Ibrahim Abubakar was handled inside the area, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty.
Alex Oyowah stepped up confidently and fired down the middle to seal the contest.
With a 5-0 aggregate victory, Remo Stars progress from the preliminary round and now face a much sterner test against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the second preliminary round, where a place in the group stage will be at stake.
