Head coach Gernot Rohr has issued a stern warning to his players ahead of Benin Republic’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash with Nigeria, urging them to maintain discipline and composure on the field.
The experienced German tactician expressed concern over his team’s disciplinary record, revealing that nine players are walking a suspension tightrope ahead of Friday’s fixture against Rwanda.
The players at risk of suspension include Sessi d’Almeida, Yohan Roche, Jodel Dossou, Rodrigue Kossi, Mohamed Tijani, Samadou Attidjikou, Imourane Hassane, Junior Olaitan, and Cédric Hountondji.
Rohr emphasized the importance of discipline within the squad, warning that any player who picks up unnecessary bookings will face internal sanctions.
“If a player is suspended for protesting or showing bad temperament, he will be fined,” Rohr said.
“We are very strict about discipline — we can’t afford to be weakened by avoidable mistakes.”
Benin currently sit joint-top of Group C with South Africa on 14 points, following the latter’s three-point deduction.
Nigeria, meanwhile, trail closely behind on 11 points and will be eager to capitalize on any slip-ups when both sides meet at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
