Captain of Nigeria U-17 women’s national team, Shakirat Moshood, has been named among the final three nominees for the 2025 CAF Young Player of the Year (Women) award, according to the list released on Friday.

Moshood, who plays for Bayelsa Queens, has been in outstanding form for both club and country throughout the year.

A key figure in Bayelsa Queens’ successful campaign, she played an instrumental role in the club’s triumph in the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The teenage sensation also finished as the top scorer at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, despite Bayelsa Queens falling to hosts ASEC Mimosas in the final—ending their hopes of reaching the main tournament in Egypt.

On the international stage, the former Kwara Ladies forward captained the Flamingos to the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, further cementing her status as one of Africa’s brightest young talents.

Moshood will compete for the prestigious CAF award against last year’s winner, Morocco and AS FAR’s Moha El Madani, as well as Senegal and AS Bambey star Adji Ndiye.

The winner will be announced later this month.
