NIS, Akwa Ibom FA Launch 8-Week Summer Basic Coaching Programme in Uyo

The National Institute for Sports (NIS), in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, has announced the commencement of its 8-Week Summer Basic Coaching Programme in Uyo, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sports development through quality education and grassroots capacity building.

The initiative forms part of the Institute’s nationwide strategy to make coaching education more accessible to aspiring and practicing coaches. Akwa Ibom State is under the NIS South-South Zonal Centre, headquartered in Benin City, Edo State, highlighting the Institute’s drive to expand professional sports education across the region.

The training programme will provide participants with both theoretical and practical knowledge in the fundamentals of sports coaching, coaching techniques, drill organisation, exercise planning, and competition management. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official NIS Certificate of Participation/Completion.

The programme is open to football coaches, grassroots coaches, sports academy instructors, youth leaders, retired athletes, club coaches, sports administrators, graduates seeking careers in sports coaching, and individuals interested in acquiring a strong foundation in coaching.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, reiterated the Institute’s commitment to strengthening grassroots sports development and expanding access to coaching education through its zonal centres and strategic partnerships nationwide.

The Uyo programme underscores the Institute’s vision of producing highly skilled coaches, nurturing emerging talents, and ensuring that every geopolitical zone benefits from quality professional sports training. Interested participants are encouraged to register, while further details regarding the commencement date and other programme information will be communicated by the Institute.
