CAF Acting GS Commends NFF Leadership Over World-Class Football Infrastructure Project

Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following his inspection of the ongoing NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
During his visit on Monday, Adamu described the ambitious infrastructure project as a landmark investment that will transform the future of Nigerian football. He said the facilities would play a vital role in nurturing young talents and strengthening the country’s football development structure for years to come.
“As a Nigerian, seeing what is being built here fills me with pride. The future of Nigerian football is very bright,” Adamu said. “This is the kind of facility that will help produce the next generation of stars, including future Jay-Jay Okochas. A country of Nigeria’s size deserves infrastructure that can accommodate all national teams and age-grade squads while bringing talented players together for proper development. I commend the NFF leadership for embarking on this legacy project.”
Adamu also expressed appreciation to the NFF and the Federal Government for the warm reception extended to him during his working visit to Nigeria. He disclosed that his visit is primarily to assess preparations for the upcoming CAF Congress and CAF Awards, both of which the Confederation plans to host in Nigeria.
“I want to thank the NFF and the Government of Nigeria for their hospitality. Although Nigeria is home, I have been received exceptionally well. I appreciate the NFF President and the entire leadership for their support,” he added.
NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to completing the project within the agreed two-year timeline. He noted that construction, which commenced in March last year, has now entered its 15th month, leaving approximately nine months before completion.
Gusau expressed confidence that the contractors would deliver the project on schedule, stressing that the Federation would continue working closely with all stakeholders to ensure steady progress.
Providing an update on the project, he revealed that one of the artificial pitches is already about 80 per cent complete, while work on other sections of the complex is progressing simultaneously. He explained that the pitch surface will soon be fully rooted before the focus shifts to the internal finishing of the hostel and other facilities.
“I am satisfied with both the pace and quality of work on the site,” Gusau said. “The location of the project, close to the NFF headquarters, allows us to carry out regular inspections. We are pleased with the progress so far and will continue supporting the contractors to ensure the project is delivered within schedule.”
