Unity Pre-season: Nasarawa United seal quarterfinal berth after Like-Minds win

Nasarawa United became the first team to qualify for the quarter finals of Unity Pre-season tournament after a 2-1 victory over Like Minds in their second group stage match in Abuja on Sunday.

The Solid Miners had launched their campaign on a bright note, defeating Mailantariki FC 2-1 in their first match, before claiming another win over Like-Minds FC to cement their progression to the last eight of the competion.

The battle for the second spot from the group will be decided when Like-Minds FC takes on Mailantariki FC at the Area 3 playing ground on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation president Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau made a surprise appearance at the venue of the tournament during the encounter between topflight club Nasarawa and third division side Like Minds.

On his arrival, the President was warmly received by the Organizers alongside the Chairman of Nasarawa United Barrister Danladi Isaac, Media Aide to the Sports Minister Kola Daniel among several dignitaries at the arena.

Speaking on the visit of the NFF President to the tournament, the General Coordinator of the Unity Preseason Tournament, Patrick Ngwaogu was full of appreciation to the President for finding time to watch the games, stressing that the NFF Boss has truly demonstrated that he belongs to the grassroots, and wants to support it growth.

He thanked the President for his passion, and prayed for God’s divine wisdom for him.
