John Obi Mikel: Ex-Chelsea star explains why he’s not a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Former Nigeria midfielder, John Obi Mikel stipulated that he has never been a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo recently delivered scathing criticism of Man United’s top management and manager Erik ten Hag in Piers Morgan exclusive and subsequently terminated his contract with the club this week.
He bounced back from his clubless fortunes, scoring the opening goal to make history of finding the net in five World Cup outings for Portugal from the penalty spot as his side claimed a fine start with a 3-2 win over Ghana.
However, in a chat with Dubai Eye, the former Chelsea FC player insisted he has always preferred the 37-year-old’s rival, Lionel Messi, while admitting the ego of the Portuguese captain has made him not to be his fan.
“I’ve never been a Ronaldo fan really. For me, when a player has so much ego, I don’t really get it,” Mikel explained.
“He’s never been one of my favourite players and that’s why I always go for Messi really.”
With Ronaldo’s goal for Portugal against Ghana on Thursday, he became the first player to score in five FIFA World Cups.
The former Real Madrid star is rumoured to be heading to the Santiago Bernabeu after an injury to French striker Karim Benzema.
