Former Nigerian international, Friday Ekpo says lessons should be learnt by Nigeria on team play from how the African team has performed so far at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Senegal lead the line and booked a place in the Round of 16 of Qatar 2022 where the team will face England after the Teranga Lions finished its group campaign with a 2-1 win over Ecuador which seal a spot in the knockout round.
Ghana are not far behind alongside Morocco and Cameroon but Tunisia became the first African side to crash out despite defeating holders, France in the last group game.
A member of the Super Eagles team at the 1992 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ekpo, after congratulating the African teams admonished Nigeria to learn from their team play and resilience attitude.
“A big congratulations to the African teams at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. Seeing them playing the way they have played showed a sense of unity in the team.” Ekpo told Brila FM.
“Nigeria can learn one or two things from them. We know that they have good and quality players. We should be playing as a team and playing for one another.”
Morocco with four points can join Senegal in the Round of 16 by avoiding defeat against Canada. Ghana also needs a positive result on Friday when it meets Uruguay in its last group game to make it out of the Preliminary Round.
Cameroon on its part has a huge task against five-time World Champions, Brazil with nothing but a win expected from the Indomitable Lions if it is to have a chance of qualifying for the Round of 16 for the first time in 32 years.
