Warri Wolves Hit with Sanctions Over NPFL Rule Breaches

Warri Wolves have been sanctioned for multiple violations of the Nigeria Professional Football League Framework and Rules following their Matchday 36 clash against Plateau United on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

According to the league authorities, the Warri-based club failed to provide adequate and effective security during the fixture, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas. This breach raised serious concerns about matchday safety and organization.

The club’s supporters were also found guilty of engaging in unsporting behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute. In addition, fans reportedly displayed gross misconduct toward match officials, leading to a 10-minute disruption of the match.

As a result of these infractions, Warri Wolves have been handed a series of fines totaling ₦6 million. The breakdown includes ₦2 million for inadequate security provision, ₦1 million for unsporting conduct, and ₦3 million for misconduct directed at match officials.

Beyond the financial penalties, the club has been ordered to play their remaining home fixtures behind closed doors, a move that could significantly impact team morale and revenue.

The NPFL has also instructed Warri Wolves to identify and prosecute those responsible for the incidents and provide evidence of such actions to the league body.

The club has been given 48 hours from the date of notice to lodge an appeal against the sanctions.
