Paul Onuachu powers Genk to victory over Club Brugge with 14th goal

Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu scored a goal as his Belgian side, KR Genk recorded a 3-1 win over Club Brugge on Sunday.
Club Brugge opened the scoring in the 21st minute with superb work from Bjorn Meijer who played a vital role in the build up.
The Nigeria international squared the ball to Hans Vanaken who beats Maarten Vandevoordt with a brilliant shot into the bottom right corner.
In the 25th minute, Joseph Paintsil produced a a beautiful lofted cross into the box where Carlos Cuesta rose high to head the ball into the bottom right corner beyond the goalkeeper for Genk’s equaliser.
Genk went ahead for the first time in the game in the 67th minute when Paintsil teed up Onuachu inside the box and the latter rolled the ball into the bottom right corner and past Simon Mignolet.
The visitors were reduced to ten players in the 75th minute as Abakar Sylla received his second yellow card of the match.
The host sealed the win in the 81st minute when Bilal El Khannous played a simple square pass into the feet of Bryan Heynen in the box. Heynen composed himself and lashed the ball into the bottom left corner.
Onuachu played for the duration of the match for Genk as he scored his 14th goal in 16 league games while his compatriot, Yira Sor replaced Bilal El Khannous in the 88th minute.
Rafael Onyedika was missing in action for Club Brugge due to accumulated yellow cards.
The win ensured that Genk returned to winning ways with its first game of the new year after a 1-0 loss to Kortrijk on Boxing Day (December 26, 2022).
Genk top the log with 49 points after 19 league games while Club Brugge maintained its fourth position with 34 points.
On January 11, 2023, Genk will face Antwerp while Club Brugge plays Anderlecht four days later.
