Nigerian born striker, Daryl Dike has attracted special recognition from his West Brom manager, Carlos Corberan for his superlative performance in their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship clash on Saturday.
Dike scored twice in the opening 15 minutes of the match to push the Baggies up on the log and also ended Boro’s unbeaten run in the league under Michael Carrick.
The West Brom handler who described Dike as all round striker feels that the forward was also instrumental in protecting the lead with his defensive consciousness.
“I value a lot his defensive commitment today, as much as his goals – because goals are key to win football matches – that he scored,” Corberan told media.
“We know as strikers, playmakers and wingers have responsibilities to score goals, because many times they are going to finish the chances we create – and the team have responsibility to create chances.
“For the striker it’s important to increase his confidence by scoring goals, but for me I reward more the football that he was doing at the same level that I reward his goals,” he concluded.
Dike has overcome a long-term injury to now net five goals in the Championship this season.
