U20 WAFU-B Women’s Cup: Falconets start preparation with win over Abuja U15 boys

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria U-20 women side made a bright start to their preparation for the upcoming maiden West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) U20 Women’s Cup with a 5-1 victory over Abuja U15 boys on Saturday.

A brace from Goodness Chukwuamaka plus strikes from Vera Samuel, Esther Onyenezide and late call-up Adaobi Okah gave Christopher Danjuma’s side the morale boosting start to their build-up for Ghana 2023.

Confluence Queens forward Chukwuamaka opened the scoring early in the first half before she doubled the national team’s advantage before the half time break against the local young boys.

After the restart, the Abuja based talented boys pulled one back but Okah recovered the two-goal before FC Robo Queens star Onyenezide and Samuel struck to seal the ruthless triumph.

The WAFU B U20 Women’s Tournament will take place in Ghana from 20 May – 4 June, with Nigeria drawn against Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Togo in Group B.

The Falconets will hope to prove their mettle as African Games winners when they open their campaign against Niger Republic on May 21 at the Baba Yara Stadium before a clash with Togo at the same venue on May 24.

The final group game for Nigeria will take place at the Paa Joe Stadium against Burkina Faso on May 28.
