Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro congratulates Enyimba on emerging NPFL champions

Nigeria senior national team coach, Jose Peseiro has congratulated Enyimba after emerging as Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Sunday.

A 1-1 draw with 2021/2022 winners Rivers United sealed the title for the People’s Elephant as Awazie Ekene scored the first goal of the match for Finidi George’s side in the 39th minute before Nyima Nwangwa equalised for Stanley Eguma’s side three minutes into the second half.

Peseiro who was in Lagos to witness the NPFL Super Six where champions emerged on Sunday heaped praises on the two-time African champions.

“Congratulations to the new champions, Enyimba FC, for the ninth title win in their history,” Peseiro Tweeted.

“Congratulations also to the other 5 teams that participated in the Super Six play-offs.”

Enyimba won its ninth NPFL title on goal superior difference after the top three teams finished the Super Six with nine points apiece.

The Aba-based side qualified for the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League alongside second-placed Remo Stars.

Rivers United qualified for the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup after its third place finish at the end of the NPFL Super Six.
