2023 AFCON qualifiers: Sierra Leone commences training ahead of Nigeria clash

By Monsurah Olatunji
The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone have commenced full training ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matchday five encounter against Nigeria.
The team under coach John Keister started their training with all the invited players on Monday and they are ready to move to Liberia where they will face the Super Eagles at Sam Kanyon Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia, on Sunday.
It’s a must-win match for Sierra Leone who is placed third with 5 points to reignite their qualification process.
However, the Stars will be without seven key players as captain of the side, Stephen Caulker, Jonathan Morsay, Osman Kakay, Alex Bangura, Alhassan Koroma, and Sullay Kaikai will all miss the game as a result of injury, while forward, Issa Kallon will miss the game on personal ground.
A defeat or draw from the match will end Sierra Leone’s dreams of making it to Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
Meanwhile, Nigeria needs at least a draw to guarantee their ticket to feature in the AFCON tournament slated to hold in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles are Group A leaders with two points ahead of second-placed Guinea-Bissau and four in front of the Leone Stars.
